“Is there intelligent life in outer space?”

“Are UFO’s real?”
Vast sums of money have been spent over the years in researching and exploring our universe in search for “intelligent life.” The majority of these efforts have been disappointing dead ends. Time and money could be saved by reading the Words of the Creator of the universe regarding the life forms He created for it.

Genesis 1:1, 2 tells us that the Almighty Triune God created the universe. Isaiah 45:18 says

“For thus says the LORD, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is no other.”

Further, Psalm 115:16 states that “The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’S: but the earth He has given to the children of men.”

Not surprisingly, observable science confirms the Word of God. The search for any trace of life (“aliens” or otherwise) in other parts of the cosmos has included scanning for radio signals, sending probes through space, and landing rovers on other planets. It always turns out to be exactly as the Bible teaches – the earth is unique. It was suitably formed specifically for human, plant, and animal life. No intelligent life, nor any place suitable for life to survive and thrive, has been found anywhere else in the universe other than the Earth.

In recent years, Mars specifically has been the subject of several probes sent there from Earth to search for any conclusive signs of life. So far these missions have been very unsuccessful in their quest to find “intelligent” life, and even “simple” life on the Red planet. Further, liquid water – essential for life as we know it to exist – on Mars is all but non-existent.

The idea of “extraterrestrials” is quite problematic theologically and logically as well. The greatest barrier to the notion of “ET’s” is found in John 3:16, which specifically tells how God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, into the world as God in human flesh to save from their sins all humans who believe in Him.

The Bible declares in 1 Corinthians 15:21-22 “For since…by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.”  Further, Romans 8:20 – 22 tells us that the
whole of creation has been affected by the curse of sin instigated by man’s rebellion against God. And as mentioned above, Christ died only once1, and only for those of Adam’s race. Taking these passages in context, this would imply that only those of Adam’s race (humans) – all of whom are subject to physical death – can receive eternal life in heaven
through the physical death and resurrection of Christ – the last Adam.

This would mean that if E.T.’s did exist, they would be subject to the curse of sin, but at the same time, they could not be saved from the judgment of the universe in fiery destruction mentioned in 2 Peter 3:10 – 13, and alluded to in Isaiah 34:4, 51:6; Revelation 21:1 and others. If this were true, it would be quite problematic theologically.

Dr. Werner Gitt sums up the problem well2 : “…Jesus dying for alien beings makes no sense, since Jesus became a man, and remains the God-man forever to be our Savior. The whole purpose of creation is focused on the race on earth, of which some will be Christ’s bride throughout eternity. Christ will not have multiple brides.”

Regarding UFOs, some time ago I came across a news article3 publicizing a study done by the British Ministry of Defense, which “…found no evidence that ‘flying saucers’ or unidentified flying objects were anything other than natural phenomena.” The article elaborated that “the 400-page report… concluded that meteors and unusual atmospheric conditions could explain UFO sightings such as bright lights in the sky. ‘No evidence exists to suggest that the phenomena seen are hostile or under any type of control, other than that of natural physical forces,’ the report said.”

Furthermore, it was reported, “Evidence suggests that meteors and their well-known effects, and possibly some other less-known effects, are responsible for some unidentified aerial phenomena. Considerable evidence exists to support the thesis that the events are almost certainly attributable to physical, electrical and magnetic phenomena in the
atmosphere, mesosphere, and ionosphere.”

I would add that it is very likely that some “sightings” of UFO’s and “aliens” could likely be attributed to demonic  forces. The Bible tells us4 that Satan’s helpers can disguise themselves as “angels of light” in order to deceive many people.

I think one reason why the belief in “ET’s” is appealing to so many people is because each person has been  given by their True Creator a fundamental desire to know Him5.  Most people would accept that there has to be a “Higher Being” out there.  However, because of their sin nature, most people reject authority over their lives. Therefore, they will not accept that this “Higher Being” is the God of the Bible, who, as the Creator of the Universe, will be dictating how they must live their lives. So, they frantically and foolishly search for a replacement “god”, any “god”, as long as it isn’t the One True God6.

Another reason offered for the search for ET’s is that maybe those ET’s have “evolved” enough to where they could help us humans solve problems we can’t seem to figure out – like a cure for cancer, or the meaning of life. Christians know that there is only one True God, that He knows the cure for the ultimate
disease7, and that our purpose in life is to live to honor and obey Him8.

I believe that when all is said and done the Bible will be vindicated in stating that the earth was   uniquely formed for human life, and that the heavens are the LORD’s. Even now, based on the Bible and confirmations from observable science, we know that the God of the Bible is the only intelligent life in outer space. ~
